Subject: message for harambee

greetings terri,

thank you,
jeremiah

greetings members of Harambee,

i'm writing to sincerely and deeply thank you for your powerful and provocative message during noon service yesterday. throughout the day, and even this morning as i rise, there were reverberations rippling through my heart and mind. thank you for speaking the truth, for telling it like it is; for lifting up the strength and courage of black women, for demanding that we all do the same; for creating a space where we can shout and dance together, celebrating those men and women before us that made a way, affirming our responsibility to be those people today; for commissioning us to create the spaces for the next generation to live in a full feedom, justice and equality.

i was specifically moved by Quardricos Driskell's warning that God promised us no more flood, even as we may need it for the fire. it was a rousing message in tone and tenor, but further in truth. he spoke directly to the core of my conscience, and i appreciate the castigation and catalyzation of the message. further, i was nourished by Rev. Claudia Ann Highbaugh's homily, especially her righteous critique of the cover of the harvard divinity bulletin. she not only told us what was wrong about it, but what could have and should have been right about it. i have already thanked Rev. Highbaugh for speaking the truth, and encouraging me to vigiliantly do the same. i thank you now, Harambee, for creating the space in which all at the divinity school must face our failures to achieve a truly beloved community, but doing so in a spirit of hope and faith that inspires us to continue the work now and ahead. with deepest gratitude, i thank you.

peace,
jeremiah jenkins
